Finally,

a School Board Member Who Cares about Children!

I am a parent of a child with a learning disability, that is not "learning inability". I began advocating for my child when she was in 3rd grade. I went through the gamut, advocates, support groups, reading every piece of literature I could get my hands on.

After getting completely frustrated at the intimidation, lies, manipulation and retaliation tactics used against both myself (but, mostly my child to get to me), I ran for a position on the school board with the hope of getting elected and influencing a change for the good of the children in our school. I worked to encourage the board to listen to issues both special education and regular education. I sat on the board and listened to a steady stream of parents and staff members tell their stories about the horrific tactics used primarily by our Principal to abuse her power to influence others through retaliation and fear! The worst part is that time and time again people would tell the board about the lies and truly appalling behavior and the board would turn around and ask HER what her response was and she would LIE again and they would buy into the lies.

It got to the point that the board (through consensus) asked the Superintendent to put into place a plan of action to correct the behaviors that the Board felt were most disturbing. Those behaviors included; Breaching Student Confidentiality, being non-responsive to Parental complaints, being disrespectful to Parents (those were the Big items). Anyway, that was proposed in May, the Superintendent to this day (10 months later has still not instituted a plan of action). The intent behind this was to have documentation in place to truly encourage the changes.

In November, out of complete and total frustration, I resigned from the board not wanting to be a part of what I believe is irresponsibility on the Board's part to serve the people that elected them. The political "self-appointed" powers to be in our town protect the Principal, as they are many of the original Board members who hired her. There was a two month period where parents lodging complaints went to the press to make public the issues that the Board was ignoring - this did not help - it only resulted in further retaliatory behavior that was overlooked or dismissed again.

It is a hopeless, frustrating, disgusting situation and there is a small group of us that have banded together in hopes of drawing enough attention to this to gain REMOVAL of this incompetent, evil, self absorbed, sorry excuse of an Administrator.

The only success I have made so far is that after 4 years of hell - a lawyer and an advocate and several thousand dollars investment, my child is being educated at a private school at the District's expense. Her "average" grade performance that all of the staff in this school saw no significant problems with resulted in her being 4+ years below grade level upon entering the private school. She now, after one short year, is doing extremely well. The best part is that she is being treated like a human being and her self-esteem has returned. After reading all of this, one might have an idea why that would be.

Then get involved in your community and learn who the honest board candidates are by learning about the politics in your area. Do not depend on your local paper. Read FOR PARENTS ONLY so you can critically examine what is happening. Talk to dedicated teachers, who will speak if they can count on anonymity. Understand what is going on in our schools so you can become a force to help our children. Learn the DELPHI TECHNIQUE so you can maintain control of your own thoughts. Join NAPTA and get your opinions out there so the day will come when our voice is stronger than the power of the thugs who are now destroying our children.

UNITED WE CAN DO IT! BY WORKING TOGETHER, ONE DAY, IN THE NOT SO DISTANT FUTURE, AS TEACHERS FIND SAFETY IN NUMBERS, THE TIDE WILL TURN, AND ALL THE TEACHERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY VOICELESS WITH FEAR, WILL BE FREE TO TELL THE TRUTH. WE WILL END TEACHER ABUSE, END INSTITUTIONALIZED CHILD ABUSE, AND STOP THE DECLINE OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS WHEN WE TAKE THE REINS AWAY FROM THE POWER BROKERS. THESE PERVERTED PEOPLE, WHO BELIEVE OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURES DO NOT MATTER AS MUCH AS THEIR PERSONAL ATTAINMENT OF POWER, MUST BE EXPOSED FOR WHAT THEY ARE JUST AS THE CHURCH RECENTLY EXPOSED THE ABUSIVE PRIESTS. IF MEN OF GOD CAN BE EXPOSED, WE CAN USE OUR VOICES TO DESTROY THE PEDASTALS ON WHICH OUR ADMINISTRATORS ABUSE THEIR AUTHORITY.
