There is alot going on out there.............NY.....NJ.....Cal............what state is next ? Who out there wants to do something about it ? What do you want to do about?
If a union can help, I'd first go to the union. When the union couldn't help, I emailed a lot of employment attorneys to take a case on a contingincy basis. If that is not practical or applicable, I would try to get enough teachers with the same or similar grievances to go to the media . . . hit everything; tv and newspapers State and local elected officials often claim "they didn't realize" the extent of the problem. Make them realize. Contact them. If you can (are allowed) get visual documentation- - video and copy, copy, copy . . . document everything.
I've spoke to my Chapter Leader; I retained an attorney and started a law suit against the NYCDOE; I gave approx. 3 television interviews last summer and at least 2 newspaper interviews the summer before that; I've emailed state and local officials. I know that makes me a target for the Administration, but I just don't care anymore. I've done all I can think of and need others to do the same.
Unfortunately we need to stick up for the people in the place where we work. No one feels comfortable doing that. No one wants to be marked for abuse by administration. I really need the people I work with to verify events, but they are too afraid. Unless they do, the administration will probably win.
