Post: All Substitutes are not equal Posted by Janice on 10/30/07
I am so dismayed with the educational system. I had another bad sub day. I called the principal and told her that I did not have the training to deal with children who cannot behave themselves. I was in the detention room and the children put on a show. They should be in movie. Joe Klein is a liar. These schools have not improved at all. Most of the middle schools are completely out of control. It has not work for me at all. I spent far too much money trying to become a teacher. I am substituting for young rookies who do not have their masters degrees. What is wrong with this picture?
Here is my other complaint tonight. Subcentral is now calling me for jobs in my content area. If department is going to do this, it should pay more money. I just find out that substitute paraprofessional makes $20 less than a substitute teacher. This is insane
I don't know if it is possible in your situation, but maybe you can sub in private schools or public schools outside the city? If you are able to relocate, you might be better off. You are totally right. These places are out of control. I teach high school, but have heard horror stories about what goes on in middle schools! No wonder they don't know anything when we get them! If there's no discipline in the middle schools, they won't be able to adapt to high school and certainly not college later. The city is setting our kids up for failure. readkitty
