Former Teacher Wins Lawsuit Against School
Teacher Awarded $1 Million
This December 11, 2007 article told about Danielle Coziahr, a former third-grade teacher, who “won a $1 million judgment in a lawsuit against the Chula Vista Elementary School District because she was released shortly after becoming pregnant. …The jury found that the school district decided not to continue her employment, which would have made her a tenured teacher, because she is a woman.”
"The money is an afterthought," Coziahr said Monday, according to the Union-Tribune. "I wasn't seeking litigation for compensation. I was seeking litigation to clear my name." …She said the Chula Vista district's decision was unjust and has prevented her from getting another teaching job in the area. "I'm basically blackballed, …I can no longer teach in San Diego County. My teaching career has ended."
